3 years ago my husband and I realized we needed to cut back on spending before we could buy a house and start a family. One of the obvious choices was to get rid of cable tv. We really didn’t watch THAT much tv and neither of us would say we were die-hard fans of any show in particular (although we did get obsessed with Dexter at one point). We made a quick decision and canceled our cable subscription!
SAVE MONEY AND GET RID OF CABLE

We purchased an HD antenna (basically the 21st century version of the rabbit ears antenna) in order to still get basic channels so we could watch the news, sporting events, etc. They’re inexpensive, and you can find it on Amazon.
In addition to the antenna, we purchased a ROKU. The ROKU is a small device that plugs into your TV and connects to your Wifi. The ROKU doesn’t charge a subscription fee, you’re really just buying a small box that can stream your internet onto your tv screen. Basically, the ROKU turns your tv into a giant IPAD with a remote!
Almost all tv networks have an online streaming capability (i.e. Showtime, HBO, ABC, PBS) so you can subscribe to individual channels that you choose. Or, you can do what we do, which is subscribe to HULU and Amazon Prime. We feel like between those 2 subscriptions we can get plenty of options for TV shows and movies. The ROKU lets you use your Pandora/Spotify account to listen to music, watch workout videos and throw on cartoons when you need to get stuff done! Seriously guys, endless possibilities!
Here is what you’ll end up paying to make the switch:
ROKU: 1 time fee $58.99
ANTENNA: 1 time fee $15
HULU Plus: $5.99 per month + free trial
